A FALSE BALANCE IS ABOMINATION TO GOD
In Solomon's day, a balance, or a scale was extremely important. It determined how much money you had and how much money you spent. Today, a scale means much more to our vanity than it does to our currency.
Someone has said that the essence of warning against “false balance or unjust weight” is to enable us not to conduct our businesses in an unjust manner. To have an unjust weight or scale means to show partiality or deceit in business exchanges, in order to deceive others to profit yourself. When a weight is just, it conforms to the universal standard of measurement.
Some people want to be rich by all means. Competition is very common in the world on who drives the best cars, owns the most beautiful mansion and other pleasurable but temporary acquisitions that only define status symbol.
For this reason, a lot of people are cutting corners and doing all manner of unethical things. Sadly, many so-called believers are caught in this rat race.
ln some environments, truth is a scarce commodity as business people and service givers rip their customers off by rendering services that are below standard or half measures.
Those who sell products give lower measures than they claim to give. Corruption is just the order of the day. ln our text, we are told that the contrast between the righteous and unrighteous manifests in the blessings that come from righteousness. God abhors dishonest and unjust measurements. In particular, those who pursue wealth and worldliness at all costs will be left without hope. But those who seek righteousness not only benefit their own lives, they become a blessing to those around them.
YOUR MEDITATION: III-gotten wealth is rottenness to the bone.
